Founded in 2003 by Catalino Tapia, a Latino gardener, BAGSF has sponsored 321 students and provided over $642,000 for eligible Bay Area students. Among BAGSF’s programs is the Strong Roots Mentorship Program whose purpose is to help low-income students access dedicated mentors to help them achieve their career dreams.

Participating students are paired with caring, friendly, dedicated, and passionate mentors who’re experts in their careers, allowing them to benefit from their counsel, support, friendship, and encouragement. The program aims to assist underprivileged students of color in breaking barriers that hinder them from realizing their full potential.

One of the major challenges faced by students is a lack of proper understanding regarding the higher education system in the United States. Mentors have significantly impacted the lives of passionate scholars looking for professional guidance to achieve their educational and career dreams.
