How Long Can Parents Access Student Data in Data Privacy Law

The recipient of a PhD in educational leadership from San Francisco State University, Mary E. Streshly has been an educator and academic administrator for over three decades. Mary Streshly serves as a senior advisor and acting executive director at Oakland Military Institute College Prep Academy, overseeing board liaison activities and communications and preparing board meetings. She is also responsible for student data management and analysis.

For privacy reasons, only some entities can access student data, such as teachers and school executives. Parents can access student data and petition for data alteration per the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) if the enrolled student is less than 18 years old. Once a student reaches age 18, these rights automatically transfer to the student. Data rights can be transferred from parent to student before age 18 if the student has attained a postsecondary education level. Some states have additional student data privacy laws.

Data protection is relevant for schools since they collect and organize students’ information in databases. Staff uses this data to understand each pupil better and teach them efficiently.

Understanding Quality Teaching for English Learner Program

A part-time San Francisco State University faculty member, Mary E. Streshly, lectures on educational leadership for doctorate programs focused on policy, law, and the political economy of education. Also, in her career and passion for improving student achievement, especially for youth from underserved communities, Mary Streshly led various collaboratives, including the Quality Teaching for English Learners (QTEL) program.

The QTEL program aims to equip learners with the tools and support required to prepare for college and careers, especially for English language learners. The professional framework targets members of the teaching profession and equips them with opportunities to develop teaching and leadership expertise with new standards of learning.

QTEL aims to provide a classroom-friendly, sociocultural learning theory approach that ensures students gradually develop in the language, tackle learning challenges, and adopt literacy best practices. Another approach is rigorous instruction, deep disciplinary knowledge, quality interactions, and an exhaustive language curriculum that is long-term and tweaked for problem-solving.

How To Make Cobb Salad

Mary E. Streshly is the acting executive director at Oakland Military Institute in California. She has degrees in English, education, and school administration. Besides her professional life, Mary Streshly enjoys wine tasting, hiking, traveling, and cooking.

Cobb salad is a delicious dish native to California. To prepare, make a salad dressing combining vinegar, mustard, oil, seasoning, and pepper in a bowl. Next, place some lettuce leaves to cover a large tray or platter. Add bacon and hard-boiled eggs in two vertical rows on the leaf. Next, add chicken, avocado, and blue cheese in three rows till the entire leaf is covered. You can then garnish the dish with red tomatoes and chives, then season with pepper and salt.

Drizzle the pre-made dressing on the salad, and serve. You can enjoy this as a main dish or as a side to other dishes like potatoes, garlic bread, grilled corn, and green beans.
