Choosing the Right Soil for Planting

There are three soil classifications: sand, silt, and clay. A balanced combination of these three soil classes produces a rich, sandy, and an airy mixture called loamy soil, the best soil for growing plants.

Agriculturists agree that loamy soil is the best soil type for three reasons: texture, calcium level, and ph level. Loamy soil has a crumbly texture but is dry and soft to the touch, making it perfect for draining excess water during the planting season.

A loamy mixture is also high in calcium and low in salt content, encouraging plant growth and providing oxygen to a plant’s roots. A high ph level is another way loamy soil boosts plant growth. A good ph level allows the plants to receive the most nutrients from the sun or water.
